The Great Wall

Most of the hostels in Beijing run tours to the great wall. Our hostel had 2 different tours one to the touristy part of the wall which has been renovated and one to a remote part which has not. I went to the remote part. There were fourteen of us signed up for the tour and we went there in two mini buses. It was a 2.5 hour journey but it was more comfortable than the mini buses in Siberia and they didn't break down.

Once we got there we met our guide who would take us up the mountain and along the wall. She didn't have any English but she knew the way...

It took about 30 minutes to get up the mountain. It was very steep at parts and there was lots of ice and snow which made it difficult. I had warm clothes and decent boots from the earlier part of my trip so I was fine but not everyone was as well prepared. One girl fell 6 times throughout the walk, but still managed to complete it.

Almost there...

Once we got to the top we spent 2 hours walking along the wall. We were the only people at that part of the wall and there was no one else around in any direction.

Mountains....

After 2 hours on the wall we started our decent down to a village to have lunch that was cooked by a local family. Once again it was pretty steep and icy on the way down but soon it leveled off and we got to the village.

Almost there..
